Unhappy feel like vegetable, am a vegetable

Just came back from doctors appointment. Its official, I must be a vegetable for at least the next 4 weeks. Aggravated a herniate disc! I had a choice to aggressively attack the problem and try injections into the offending disc or letting it heal on its own. Past experience tells me to let heal on its own.

The only upside to this whole ordeal is that I get to see Anna the physicians assistant who understands my reluctance to injections and surgery. Plus she is a real looker! She tells me that if after 4 weeks I don't show improvement enough to go back to work, the injections are the next step. I WILL GET BETTER!

Good thing the computer and forums like these exist. I'm going bonkers watching my grass grow and not being able to do damn thing about it. So many things I want to do and I really miss work.

You have Netflix, right?

My mother had this problem before so I know it can be a pain. Hope you start feeling better soon!

I've got one of those in my neck, makes my arms numb when it flares up. Not fun! Ah youth sports related injuries sure are fun when you get old! Good luck with your evil disk!

I work on the ortho/neuro floor, so a decent amount of my patients are disc/lami/fusions. I don't envy those with severe back problems.

Thanks for the sympathy guys.

Bondi, You a nurse? I somehow pictured you on an ambulance crew. It seems you have a lot of downtime to be able to post so often on this forum.
Any good stories you are able to tell?

My cousin was a nurse and he had some funny stories about how these obese people would need to be moved. And how he had to help them go to the toilet. To hear him tell the stories I would bust a gut laughing so hard. He would use very colorful language. (He has a gift to mimic foreign accents) and uses it to its full potential. Especially the Polish, Italian and Colored people. It's ironic because he has been saddled with the chore of taking care of his elderly mother (my Aunt, the matriarch of the family) who is almost an invalid. Although he loves her, he spares no language with her as he must tend to her needs. Even then its funny as he tells us the stories of taking care of her.

Its a bitch getting old but I intend to milk it for all its worth. But I hate to ask for favors and have friends and family do things for me when I know I could or should be able to them for myself!

My mom is an RN, they do have some dark humor. But use the word 'connective tissue' to describe some thing you're eating and she gets grossed out... I respect the health care workers a ton!

My wife was stopped at a light when the Neon got rearended in '04. As a result has had 2 cervical fusions at C3/4 and C5/6. The disc between C4/5 is pretty damaged and she periodically gets the shots to assist the meds in pain blockage.

The local clinic is an offshoot of an excellent orthopedic surgery group specializing in pain treatments of all sorts. She has never had issues with the shots. A couple small bandages that come off when we get home (about an hour drive) and she's going great guns.

Yep, and I work second shift which is 3pm to 11:30pm right now. Leaves a lot of daytime for posting during housework and such when the wife and kid are gone.

As Captainmorbid said, we do have some messed up humor, so our stories might not be as funny to you. Also HIPAA rules can be kinda strict so I won't get into that stuff.

I think those rules are a good thing. You wouldn't want people to run screaming into the night dragging their IV stands with their asses flapping in the breeze...
