From Yahoo, this article has points covering several things I've seen discussed on the various boards. Among them ...
Changing oil ... Using premium fuel ... Additives and devices ... Check-engine light ... Performance tires ... This I sort of took issue with seeing as how some of us autocross, etc and the stickier tire is a good thing. <shrug>Built-in navigation ... Amazingly, more than several of us stated the same reasons as the article on the topics.

yea the only thing i take issue with there is the tires. while it's true that 99% of average people do not need a performance tire that doesn't mean that it's an area to be cheap on. many people will read this and say "oh so the $50 nankang tires are just as good as the $250 goodyears so i'll just get the cheaper one" or even worse....."it's just a tire, i'll buy used and save some money". this thinking drives me nuts. no, not everyone needs a pilot sport or eagle f1 tire, but people should be putting decent tires on their cars. people seem to forget that the only contact that your car actually has with the road is the tires, so it's kind of important that those tires are at least decent.
there are many areas of cars that i will try to save money on, tires and brakes are not one of them.

I don't use performance tires - the really sticky ones - but I did invest about $500 to replce the OEM Kumhos with Goodyear all-weather ones. Got me thru the Winter in fine style.

it's just linked to trim. SE get Kumho, SES get Hancook. and I still stick to changing oil more often ... not as often as 5000km but still not as long as the 8000km or more suggested (I don't think I can imagine the recommended 16000km interval in the book, if I remember correctly) Besides, the main long trip I do every 2 weeks involves two summits of 1440m and 1240m and lots of trashing around. So yeah, I'm going to get that oil change.

Kumhos were on the 15" SE as far as I know. Those with 16" rims got Hankooks. At least at the time of my cars production ... July '10
