Default Black or yellowlab?

We lost Casey our black lab a few months ago. It wears on me every day. I cant tell you how much it hurts. Casey was so much part f our family.
We had him cremated and he will be buried at my fathers wishes wih him.

I want another dog. I am not sure what go get. I want a lab for sure. Is there any difference in temperent? What is the differerence between black and yellow?

I would like to hear your opinions. Thanks.

I feel your loss. That the trouble with pets. They become family members.

My suggestion, is not to decide ahead of time. Go to the shelter and look for for what you might want. Don't you pick the dog. Let the dog pick you. You'll both know when its the right fit!

Personally, I don't like labs. Looks-wise anyways. I have a black lab and I don't much care for him. Great personality, just not a dog person (wife's dog). All labs typically have great temperament. In my experience, chocolate labs are the only ones that seem to be a bit dumb.

Also, some dogs eat to live and others live to eat. Labs live to eat. They can become fat pretty fast because they'll eat anything in large quantities.

If you don't have one already, I suggest you invest in one of these:

Premier Pet

Great for teaching the dog to walk properly and that you're the leader, not him. They usually last about 1-2 years before getting worn and needing to be replaced.

Chocolate (: Between black and yellow labs I think I like them all. I've always have black dogs by chance though.

I'll take that dog.

There's always exceptions but your assessment about some dogs live to eat is erroneous. It all depends on the owner and how the dog is treated from puppy stage. If given lots of food from the start any dog will want to eat everything. The first two years is puppy stage and will set the stage for the rest of his life. Most people are not disciplined enough to train their dog for two years. And that includes all the small things like when and how to eat. Such as not being protective with their food. I'm able to remove food from my dogs mouth with complete safety. Many dogs no matter how gentle will not allow this. Another item that many people don't realize it that most dogs if not trained from a puppy will not allow for their paws to be grabbed and manipulated.
Virtually any dog, any breed can be trained to one's will, but it takes time and the trainer or owner must be trained first.

I can attest to the effectiveness of the gentle leader dog leash. These thing are terrific. Another fantastic product is the Furmanator brush. Not just a brush but a grooming tool to remove all loose hair and the properly groom the under coat.
