Fresh Strawberries From Washington County Farm Implicated In E. coli O157 Outbreak In NW Oregon
08/11/2011 01:41 PM EDT

Oregon Public Health officials have identified fresh strawberries from a Newberg farm as the source of a cluster of Escherichia coli O157:H7 infections that sickened at least 10 people last month, including one person who died. The strawberries were produced last month by Jaquith Strawberry Farm located at 23135 SW Jaquith Road in Newberg. Jaquith finished its strawberry season in late July, and its strawberries are no longer on the market.

Exclamation

Lived near that exact farm growing up; may have even gotten pumpkins from their patch. That said, I hate strawberries.

I don't eat strawberries. But if I did, Florida has plenty.

If you eat any food that grows outside and don't cook it to over 140 degrees you are at risk for all kinds of stuff. If its organic, they use "poop" to fertilize it, and that has all kinds of things.

When you cut open a watermelon do you wash it first with soap and hot water? Or apples before you eat them or oranges before you peel them? If not, if thereis something on the skin, you will eat it.

I know way to much about food safety, that's part of my job.

I am not a hippie.. I live off of bacon and coke with some pizza and sushi mixed in.

a taste so to speak.. this might make some people see things differently.

"Raw Fresh Produce vs. Cooked Food
Are Humans an Exception?

Eighty million species on earth (about 700,000 of which are animals) thrive on raw food. Only humans apply heat to what they eat. Humans on average as a race, die at or below half their potential life span of chronic illness that is largely diet and lifestyle related. Domesticated pets also are fed cooked, processed, packaged food that likewise is denatured by heat. As a consequence, they suffer human-like chronic ailments including cancer, arthritis and other degenerative diseases.

The typical species in its natural pristine environment lives seven times past its age of maturity. Humans normally mature in their late teens to early twenties. Our average potential life span in robust wellness is actually in the range of 120-140 years. This is never actualized due to the effects of heating food and not learning to skillfully handle psychological stress through self-mastery (see Essentials of Health). Humans have been on earth for millions of years. Prior to mastering fire perhaps less than 10,000 years ago, humans thrived on a diet of nothing but fresh, live, unfired foods as furnished by nature in their whole unadulterated state. "
