Arrow Fiesta Faction Females' Advice Requested

It may have become apparent to the more avid FF readers that I am not terribly feminine. I own only one dress, and it's a black orchestra performance uniform dress from high school. While it fits fine it's inappropriate for pretty much every function without a violin as an accessory. I have to go to a wedding in September and would like to find a dress to wear, but I hate dresses and I hate shopping.

This is where you, FFF, come into play. Give me some ideas about what styles are good as a guest to a September wedding (weather expected to be 80s/upper70s I think). Links to specific websites would be very helpful.

If you have questions about my size or body type you'll have to PM me.

Halp.

can't go wrong with the basics from jcrew or banana republic.

something like this: Women's weddings & parties - bridesmaid & party dresses - Evie dress in silk chiffon - J.Crew or this Women's weddings & parties - bridesmaid & party dresses - Sophia dress in silk tricotine - J.Crew will flatter just about every body type and is a great staple to have.

if you don't know what might look good on you try going to local stores and just trying on a bunch of stuff. i typically get wedding dresses from lord and taylor or nordstroms, as there are a lot of different styles available (i have kind of a difficult body type to fit - i have the audacity to actually have boobs so i can't wear most dresses lol). a few suggestions about color - stick with basics that you know will look good on you and have wearability. don't get "trendy" colors that next year will look silly (like turquoise, unless it works on you). stick with black, grey, light pinks, light blues, whatever is going to work with your skin tone and hair and eye color.

it's also not a bad idea to have a good solid colored pashima (black works with just about everything). they're great to bring with you in fall/winter as a just in case.

i'm not so "girly" myself, but i do have the basics as i'm right in the middle of everyone getting married so i've been dress shopping a lot lately lol

Thumbs up

Your links/ideas are much appreciated. Thank you!

Edit: BTW - going to a store to try stuff on constitutes shopping. Do not want.

Arrow It's a wedding not a prom.

It's a wedding of people I don't really know. So, despite the fact it's amusing - no not this time.

Believe it or not, I always have luck with finding dresses at Dressbarn. They have every size imaginable and it's not too hard to find cute stuff.
Maurices is another good place for cute dresses.

Pretend its an accessory for the car. Lets see that would favor grey.
Making a dress is for those with the training. Watched my wife make a set of brides maids outfits as a gift for a friend. Would have been easier if they had actually showed up to be measured. The measurements they sent were fantasy. Good luck.

You might want something with a bolero over a sleeveless dress. You might be able to use it for another occasion that way. (Thats what we did for our maid of honor). Mess Dress worked for the best man and myself.

My wife's suggestion is to pick out a simple black dress topped with a colorful shawl would be all you would need. She picked up a number of these in Italy and they are surprisingly effective. The colors should be chosen to compliment your skin and hair color.

i hear you, but when it comes to dresses my experience has shown me that going to the store and trying them on really is the best way to go about it. i hate dress shopping, but buying online without trying on really can turn out to be a disaster if you don't know what looks good on you or your size in a particular designer. for example jcrew i find always runs small for me in the chest area, i need to order one size up then go to the tailor and have the sides taken in and length shortened, but it's not a big deal since i'm aware of that going in.

a bolero is a good idea, but maybe it's just this area but i haven't seen anyone under 60 wearing one of those in years. a pashima is the alternative of choice lol
