Haha ok so its official the "iPhone 4S" is the next iPhone. I've upgraded my iPhone every single year however this year i don't know if i have the heart to do it... Let me explain, i Love my iPhone i think apple gets it right with sleek interface and usability the iPhone is a beautiful device. However this iPhone 4S just has me jaded this year. I had a similar reaction when the 3GS was announced but i caved anyways because at the time i worked at an apple store so i had plenty of hype to influence me, and at the time android OS wasn't far enough along to be hugely attractive to me.
However this time is different this time i for the first time am actually considering getting an android phone... specifically the Samsung Galaxy S II or the Nexus Prime (but it would have to be on AT&T cause i'm not switching). Both these phones have a certain "iPhone like" sleekness to them and beautiful hi-res displays. but more importantly it will be something different. I really want to experience something new and i think getting an android phone will give me a new fresh experience, plus i really want that full compatibility with Ford Sync. The only draw for me with the iPhone 4S is the Siri "Humble Voice Assistant" feature but my biggest concern with a feature like this is its compatibility with Ford Sync because in order for it to be useful to me at all.. it would need to be compatible. I think my biggest hold for jumping to android however is retaining all the apps i've invested with iOS granted i realize most are also available on android but i really don't want to pay for them again also i want a GPS navigator that is as close to TomTom as possible (with live traffic and verbally read route directions). I feel bad because i love apple and i really wanted them to WOW me today, but i'm left with a feeling of wanting to try something new something "Google" Of course I would want to make sure that the Galaxy S II is fully compatible with Sync any of you have this phone that can talk with me... lol sell me on it haha.

Choose your phone for the operating system. I love Android and specifically the notification bar. I also love the freeness of their Apps market in both development and pricing. Many iOS apps can be found for free in the Android world. I feel very in control of my Android phone, much more so than my iPad2.
The nice thing about the iPhone/iOS side of things is stability. Android is much more fractured by comparison, and so apps can be a little more buggy than their iOS counterparts. Also, as you've touched on, you're drinking the Apple branded Kool-aid™. With that comes a lot of convenience and easy user experience, something Apple puts a lot of thought into. The Apple voice system is used for controlling the phone's OS and apps compatible with it; read: apps that have been created specifically for iOS5. There's no reason to believe SYNC will work any differently with the phone than it has. Android and Blackberry have had apps and OS functions with voice control for years. As for Apple not WOWing you: they're in a recovery mode I think since losing Jobs' daily guidance. October Apple events are usually mild compared to their spring events. I'm not all that surprised.

I'm looking forward to my new iPhone4s....it will be a big update from my current failing iPhone3g. If I had a 4 or even a good condition 3gs I might wait for the 5 but since the last time I drop kicked my 3g across the parking lot something inside has started to rattle and that can't be good. It will be nice if sync can pass commands to the Siri assistant at some point, but for now the biggest problem is how much memory do I need given the new iCloud services and what carrier to pick now that there will be three....hate to give up my unlimited service with AT&T but I don't really use that much data on my phone.

I usually stay away from the Nate/Audrey phone war threads. But if you switch over to Android you don't have anything to worry about app-wise. Android comes with Google Maps/Navigation which is much better than TomTom in both it's free-ness, and the streetview and such they offer. There's also Waze, which is a cool social media GPS app with live traffic and voice directions.
I use both, just wish they were applink compatible. But a cool feature with them is, when you're using the Stitcher/Pandora applink over bluetooth, the navigation audio will come through over your speakers along with the much. Cool stuff. |

I currently have the 4 and was also really disappointed today. After browsing some of the fanboy forums it was amazing how crazy apple people can be. Anyone that said they were disappointed was told to get over it and be happy about the 4S. I on the other hand will probably be picking up a Samsung Galaxy S2 instead. I've always wanted to give Android a shot, and with this pitiful update I can't see why not.

Don't stir the pot when there's no fire lit below.You're. And you're right, hehe. (Hmm, it appears my ego is showing; avert your eyes.) I work in technical support, which means that staying knowledgable on mobile platforms is important to me on both a personal and professional level.
