Thumbs down Sharing the Suckage!

What's bothering you? Boss got you down? Lunar cycle affecting your body chemistry? Cops bust your meth lab?

Sit down on the couch and share with us, this antithesis of awesome. No judgement, just a sounding board to vent your frustrations.

I'll get started.

Yesterday I got my yearly eval. I was marked below average because "although you're extremely knowledgeable and technical, you're one of the top two people in the shop [of 30] whom we trust with questions and opinions, you need to do more command collateral duties outside the department and more volunteer work".

Yes, because working 8 hours a day managing a schedule of all the ships (and now shore facilities) in the Navy's Pacific Fleet (we're talking west of the Mississippi to the Indian Ocean) plus creating a new master image of software we conduct our analysis on using a new OS and architecture, reviewing report data, and managing a small LAN with a database containing terabytes of collected information doesn't take up enough of my time.

Le sigh.

That sucks... sounds like your employer expects you to work outside your pay grade.

Anyways, two words: Group Projects. I'm in the middle of my senior year and I'm just totally done with these people... Two of the groups I'm in is with the same person, and he blames me for everything. I get a B back on a project, he says I need to have more attention to detail (even though he constantly "volunteers" to take the easier parts of the projects because he claims that it's his "forte".). The only reason he's like that, well, there's two reasons, he thinks I'm a procrastinator (just because I wait until the weekend to do the project when they're due on wednesday) and he's a HORRIBLE test taker. The bad thing is, I'm a good test taker so I don't share the same stress level as him. Not saying that I don't put the effort in, I'm just not that mad when I get a B back on a project mainly because I've gotten As on the exams and he's failed every one of them.

My next group is my senior project. I guess this is getting better, but our first month I had some real friction with one of the guys. We had to do a chart to map our project (a gantt chart, for those who've heard of it) and it was my job to edit it (which ended up being a 5-minute task). I had an incredibly busy week that week so I put it off because of the projects I had to finish and tests I had that week (20 credit hours of core mechanical engineering classes can make time management quite difficult). One of my group members came into a lab where I was working on a project with a group of mine, stormed up to me and asked (yelled) me if I finished editing it. I said no, but we're not meeting until friday (it was wednesday) so I had time to finish it. He stormed to the door, but before leaving he yelled "WAY TO BE A TEAM PLAYER, PETER!" That annoyed the **** out of me and made me look bad. It was incredibly unprofessional, but I shrugged it off and kept working. Afterwards, he had a grudge against me even though I came through with the chart edited on time (actually a day before) and edited right. People underestimate my work ethic sometimes...

So maybe I am a procrastinator, but I've never missed an assignment and I've always come through for them. Still, I always make the group meetings and always do what I'm asked of. I'm in the top 85 percentile of my major so I must be doing something right...

I'm bugged because I bought a low profile AGP card for a Pentium 4 desktop to be used with big screen TV. It does not work in this computer. Works in several other tower computers! There is nothing indicating why it should not work!

As to the other two previous post. All I can say is there are some benefits to not working. All that crap is in the past for me. I was on both ends and didn't like it either way. It's all just so much bull sh?t.

My complaint right now is that I am cramming three days of work into about 12 hours this week and my brain feels like it is going to explode!
The upside is that I will have four sweet blissful days in a row off. I just really have to work for it.

my response would be sort of like this: "While I can understand what you are saying, Sir ... might I suggest getting a few more of the personnel here into the 'we trust your work and opinion' group before adding more load to those who already carry it?"

Definitely stinks, tho. A group of 8 of us that started together in 2008 are now down to 4 and we still need to support the companys nuclear power gen side plus take on new training and roles. <sarcasm> Woohoo! </sarcasm>

Thumbs down Human Resources, neither resourceful or humane!

That job I applied for (after being encouraged by a few people on the hiring committee to submit an application) I'm not getting considered for at all; finalized.

My suckage to share is that I'm barely a year in and already frustrated with school beyond comprehension. I hate school with a passion and I don't think I have the fortitude to carry on for 2+ more years for my RN degree. Since I'm almost done with the prerequisites for an LPN degree, I might go that route and get a job as a clinic nurse. I love my job as a CNA and want to do more, and I do well in school, I just hate school is all.
