Default This Drives Me Crazy!

When/how/why did saying "just sayin'" start? What does that even MEAN?

It's almost as bad (but not quite) as back when people would negate a declamatory sentence by ending it with "NOT!"

Another thing that drives me up the wall is, like, when someone, like, you know, like totally is all, like, saying LIKE every third word.

OK ... I'm done, like, ranting now.

Cool

I try really hard not to get flustered by the way people speak, because most of it is learned behavior from forces/influences outside of their direct control. I cannot help but be slightly annoyed by the use of the word "y'all," but in vast regions of the country it is a perfectly acceptable replacement for "you" (singular).

I get annoyed my common grammatical mistakes. The biggest one (of many) would be "your" instead of "you're." Full sentences require verbs. VERBS!

Indeed! Don't even get me started on that one. I write for a living and so I am probably more conscious of the misuse of grammar than many. I notice a disturbing increase in errors in books lately as well. Copyediting, sadly, seems to be a dying art.

And, living in Arkansas, I must concede that "ya'll" is entrenched in the vernacular here so I'm at least used to it. Although I'm not originally from here, I even find myself uttering it on occasion.

Don't forget when someone "looses" something versus "loses" something.

Verbs are consistant through all iterations thus far.

Y'all, that's, like, my job! I'm just sayin'!

Jesting aside, I've noticed the increase of errors in books. It drives me crazy. It really IS my job and when I notice errors in publications it makes me twitchy.

Those mistakes can be quite entertaining, in the right context...
