Anyone Else Into Black Metal?

I've been listening to the new Deathspell Omega. That band just blows me away. Definitely NOT your early-90s black metal!

My friend brings me to concerts and I find some of these singers have pipes!!

I have to be in the mood for it, but I have plenty on my iPod. I prefer a little bit lighter metal most of the time ala In Flames, Soilwork, etc. Also Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc. when the symphonic metal mood strikes me.

Sadly, that singing style tends to wreck pipes after awhile. I sure love the intensity of it, however.

The ellipsis was totally a Freudian slip. I was actually thinking that swords (and battle axes; maces; morning stars; etc.) are TOTALLY metal (in the HEAVY metal sense.)

And your innuendos (intended or not) are always entertaining.

I listen to all forms of metal[except nu] but black metal[or thrash] is probably my favorite.I genarally prefer the second wave norwegian bands but I dig DsO as well.

Yes, those Norwegians are pretty astonishing. Satyricon's Dark Medieval Times is one of my favorite of all Black Metal albums. And Immortal, Darkthrone, Emperor, Enslaved ... all indispensable.

What do you think of the USBM scene? Bands like Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room, Judas Iscariot, Leviathan, Xasthur, etc.? Some great stuff from the west coast going on.

But Deathspell Omega are really what's doing it for me at the moment. Also Drudkh.
