I hope I'm in the right place for this.
My Wife has Dimentia and some times falls and can't call me. What I'm looking for is a device like a medical alert that will send me a signal (transmitter/receiver setup). I've searched for walkie talkie type devices and others, but can't find anything. Are there any electronic whiz's that know where I might purchase such a device, or a schematic of a fairly simple device. Or even a link to something similar. Thanks a lot. Jim |

Years ago Rogers sold a cell phone called Firefly. Basically it had preset, programmed numbers on it, and a child could press it to automatically dial a call to the parent.
Rogers actually carries a clamshell/flip phone called the Doro PhoneEasy. http://www.rogers.com/web/link/wirel...led=410GSMREDR Easy cell phone - 410GSM CA | Doro - Easy to use cell phones and telecom products for seniors There's a button on the back that one can press, and depending on how the phone is set up can dial up to 5 pre-set emergency numbers until someone picks up. The Doro is geared for seniors, but it's a really basic cell phone without a lot of the bells and whistles. If you're doing this as a purely emergency phone, look into either getting a small post-paid plan, or just loading up $100 per year and going on Pay-As-You-Go. Hope this helps.

Cell phone like that makes sense. Maybe Bondi has some ideas since he's in the medical field? I have no clue.

Maybe a little overkill, but: http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=102
Has a help feature to send a message to a specific person or list of people, or send a message to a search/rescue team to come get you. Supposed to be more for out in the wilderness, but can work most anywhere.

Um...we might want to keep in mind the OP is located in Canada (Abbotsford, British Columbia). I'm not sure if some of the devices posted will work in Canada.
That being said, Alarm Force offers a similar type of program: Senior Medical Alarm | Elderly Medical Alert Senior Alarms from AlarmCare, Canada And, here are some more: Canada's #1 medical alert and personal response service - Lifeline Canada Personal Medical Alert Devices, How Personal Help Button Works, LifeCall Canada Medical Alert | Alarm and Personal Emergency Response System by Direct Alert A lot of these services seem to have some link to a call centre that, in turn, alerts 911 or other services. I'm not sure if the OP really wants to go to that extent, or just simply a call placed to him.

Actually what I really want is a simple transmitter and receiver that will let me know that something happened, if a person falls a couple of times in a day you wouldn't be too popular at 911.
Something like a one way walkie talkie system, just beeping, no voice necessary. Thanks for all the good suggestions. |

All of my patients I've talked to that use something like that it's LifeAlert or some similar service to call the emergency services to get them and take them to the hospital.
