Default Tax Time - What's your return?

It's tax season! If you feel like it, why don't you share what you will get back, or owe in taxes this year! I'll start:

Federal: REFUND: $1,726
State: NO FILE (Military): $0

Single claiming only myself with no mortgage means pay. I get a credit for my student loan interest paid, but it's not enough to cover it. Usually less than $400 total.

I have a second bedroom, and since I can (and do) check my work email from home (as well as other sundry tasks), I claim it as a home office (which makes a portion of rent and utilities tax deductible). Coupled with computer and cell phone purchases throughout the year, My itemized deduction was around $11,000.

Still waiting for all my statements to come through. I want to owe about $100, but a refund of $100 would be OK.

That's a nice situation to be in.

Sounds like tax fraud to me...

Perfectly legal as long as he can substantiate it in a reasonable manner. It might make him more susceptible to an audit but if he has been doing it for several years then I don't see way they should red flag it.

Just giving DBS a hard time...but the rules are pretty open for interpretation by both sides...

^^^^ correct you are. Most auditors are sympathetic and will try to limit an ordinary citizen's liability. But Some of them can be real SOB's. Of course one's demeanor at an audit can go a long way to help one's case.

Worried about your impending tax audit? Don't be. The night before your audit, eat three cans of Wolf Brand chili (with beans). The day of your audit, borrow a friend's colicy baby to take with you. Wear that one pair of gym shoes. You know the one. You'll be outta there before you know it!
