18-26 sounds kinda of odd for the fiesta. The worst iv ever got average is 28 in the summer. 110+ so full blast ac, 20min city commute and lots of high revs because the air is on and to keep up with the crazy drivers out here.

With this darn winter weather gas and all the short 2 to 5 miles trips my MPG has fallen to around 26 +. But my wife puts it in perspective by saying that's part of the reason we bought the Fiesta. It could be worse with any other car.

I'm averaging 39-40mpg with a 40 mile one way commute to work. 70% 55-65 mph the rest in town. I have a 600 foot change in elevation from my house to work with one big hill and a lot of rolling hills. My worst tank so far was 37.2, and my best was 44.3. The low tank was an all interstate 70 mph trip and the best was an all back roads 40-55 mph trip with no stopping. 2012 Fiesta S 5sp, 3500 miles. I can only imagine how good this car could be with an additional 6th gear that would drop the engine about 500-600 rpm at 70mph.

Ironlion, how can you have a 6 speed?

What I don't understand, short of having a 6 speed is why 5th gear isn't taller to drop rpm's at 70 MPH. I think my 5 speed is about 3300 rpm at 70 whereas I would think somehwere between 2200 and 2800 would be the sweet spot. I mean this car is designed to get good gas mileage, right? I gotta believe it could be even better.

How many rpm's is the PS turning at 70 MPH?

If memory serves me right just below 3000. Maybe 2800

I have a 6-speed because I drive a PowerShift. In the summer I routinely see 2700-2800 RPM when running at 70 MPH. With the temperature now sliding between 25 F and 40 F the engine's been holding at 2600 RPM while running 70 MPH. From what I remember when I researched the Fiesta prior to buying in mid-2010, that sixth gear is the primary reason the PS-equipped models were the only ones rated at 40 MPG on the official stat sheets.

Oh, I thought you meant a real 6 spd.

Yeah, that's what I figured as far as roughly 2800 rpm at 70 MPH with the automatic. I sure wish I had a sixth gear so I could drop it in that range for the freeway.

Default 28.6

I'm getting 28.6 mpg with 23 mph average.

Mostly I'm driving 1.5 mile commute to work, with a couple of 30 mile at 80 mph freeway trips per week.
