Speaking of out-gassing (or off-gassing), what have folks found to be the best way to get rid of the film on windows from it? Seems paper towels and a normal window cleaner clean things like dog nose spots, fingerprints, etc but still leave streaks/film behind. I've heard some recommend using newspaper & vinegar (??)

Yea, most old folks swear by that method. Apparently it works well, but I can't be bothered with the mess. I use regular window cleaner. I don't seem to get any streaks.

My Fiesta had just over 500 miles when I bought it new. Must have been a popular demo car or something! Definitely has the new car smell and I love it!

Default Not just cars

It's not just new cars that have the smell.

In an earlier life I worked for Pan American World Airways (aka Pan Am) doing corporate finance. My job was to find and negotiate financing for the aircraft we needed to run the operation.

I happened to be assigned to work on financing the last two new aircraft Pan Am would ever purchase. Had a great team there and, after a tough and long process, was offered the opportunity to go to Airbus in Toulouse, France to be on hand for the actual delivery.

When the deal was done, the dinners eaten, and the Cubans smoked, we headed out the next day to board the aircraft. This was a ferry flight to JFK with just the flight crew, me and a few folks from our suppliers.

I had never thought about it, but as we stepped into the cabin, dang, if it didn't have that new car (plane) smell!

BTW, takeoff was amazing as it was incredibly lightly loaded so it leapt into the sky!

I'm an airline/airport geek, so I LOVE this story (and miss Pan Am terribly)!

Question

We've had our Blue '11 Fiesta for about 7 months and we have a musty smell (old wet towel type) inside. I've gone all over the interior and the a/c vents but haven't been able to determine the location. Has anyone else experienced this and been able figure out where it is coming from? - Thanks.

There is an air filter for the interior (I'm not sure how to change it) that I had changed at my 20000 mile servicing. My new car smell lasted a good 8 or months. I got the interior professionally cleaned/vacuumed (about $30) at 6 months myself. Could the smell be from driving over some road kill or something in your climate?
