Default Dirty Wheels!

Hi all,

I've had my Fiesta for about a month now, and I've accumulated around 750 miles, up from the 300 that were on it when it was purchased. I have the painted aluminum wheels on the 203A package, and they seem to be getting quite a lot of brake dust. My last vehicle didn't have anywhere near the amount of dust that my Fiesta makes; it seems like every 100 miles or so the dust becomes so thick it can be wiped off with my finger. I've been wiping the wheels with a cloth before washing so it doesn't accumulate too much and become difficult to clean.

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this, and if anyone knows what this is from. I'm sort of thinking that since the brake pads are new and are still being broken-in they are making more dust than usual.

Any help would be great!

I also have the same problem. It seems to be the nature of the beast. I don't know if a change in pads will make a difference.

6xxx miles later my rims are black unless i wash the car every three days lol. it's just the pads, cheap pads are almost always dusty, and stock pads are almost always cheap.

I use armor-all wheel protectant.

I know they have a bad rep but with both cars I never have to clean the wheels.

Ceramic Pads will be your answer, but, they might be too tough for the OEM rotors and warp them.

Id stick with the OEMs, Ford knows what they are doing here.

If glazing is caused then yes. I don't think the pad material will make a difference in terms of heat dissipation. It could affect stopping ability. Any well known brand of replacement pads should work alright. Ceramic i doubt cause a problem. Any after market pad I bought has always been ceramic and I never had any ill affects.

Brake dust build up on front wheels is super common on modern cars, look around a bit and you'll see it on everything from Fiestas to BMWs and Mercedes.
