Default Turtle Wax ICE liquid polish

Can anyone tell me if this is in fact polish, wax, or a mix of both?

I plan to address some minor swirlies and give some wax protection prior to heading to another harsh winter. This product intrigues me but when the terms are intermixed I lose trust in it...

I have so far had experience with Meguiars ColourX (a mild polish and wax that can address paint oxidation) and Armourall Buttersmooth (which is wax only no polish)

It is in fact a wax not a polish. This might fill in some light scratched but will not correct the imperfections like a polish would. Turtle wax ice is easy to use and can be applied on plastic without negative effects, but the durability of turtle wax ice is not so great. If you want a fairly easy to use and inexpensive sealant that also has great durability and protection, try Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Paste Wax.

Default Uh, oh..dreaded swirls...

..once there, always there. Thank the magic of clear coat, very pretty but very fragile.

The best you can hope for now is to fill them in with a high quality wax (Meguiars NXT 2.0 is superb!), and always use a back and forth/left to right motion (yeah, not the circular motion recommended). This is a trick used by detailers (myself included) which avoids swirls marks (for obvious reasons!).

I've been using this and I have to say it makes the metallic blue POP! Looks fantastic but you need to reapply every few washes. I think I did mine every month. I'll have to try the back and fourth motion. I've got swirls...

I call ICE more of an easy product than a particularly good one. I use the detailer on my cars every time I wash them. Its effect is great but very temporary. But its so dang easy to put on its worth it in my mind.

I machine buff in a good coat of Meguiars #20 sealer every year and just maintain with the ICE detailer.

If you want to wax your car, do you have to remove the old layer? What's the proper way to wax your car?

Thumbs up

this is a good website for the steps on how to wash, polish, wax, sealant and do tires for your car. Also, it has reviews on many of the car polish and waxes on the market. i found it very useful maybe you might too.
the wax(sealant) i use now to wax my car is blackfire. it makes the surface very smooth and slippery but there are many other that will do the same. this is just what i prefer.
hope this help

No, you do not need to remove the old wax. Just wash and dry the surface in the shade (or inside), and although opinions vary, if you use a microfiber waxing pad in a horizontal/back and forth direction, you get the 'cleanest' result with no swirls. Buff with microfiber towel or pure cotton, and rinse to remove any residue or dust.

Since I can't find much, let's say for instance I want to rewax my car and I just got done washing it. What do I do next to make the wax I put on look phenomenal? Do I clay bar first then wax or just straight up wax after drying the clay bar?

I'm so n00b at this its not even funny. Call of duty black ops level 1 never played cod before n00b.

Default Hey, no problem...n00b's welcome!

...gotta start somewhere!

Many like clay bar, I personally don't, unless the finish has frankly been exposed to harsh evironmental conditions or hasn't been properly waxed in years.

If you start with a new finish, keep it clean (use car wash soap that is specifically for cars!), and make sure the finish is really clean before you apply the wax, you'll be fine for at least a while. Again, some people swear by clay, to me, it's like rubbing very fine dirt into the finish to remove imperfections, after a while, you begin to abrade the clear coat... but I'm admittedly old school on this.

I swear by Meguiar's NXT 2.0, it's easy to use, it lasts a while, and the results are incredible...wet and glassy.

Remember the secret is to use back and forth/horizontal movements, not circular ones! And use a clean applicator and cotton buffing rag each time.
