The basic car is in fact built on the European version with US modifications required by US law. It's still a Eruo car by virtue of the fact that it was designed, built, and sold in Europe. Then brought to America. Physically where it was built has no bearing on the "geographic" type of car.

There was a very good video posted here where Ford talks about how and why they brought the Fiesta to the US market. I can't remember the post and had difficulty searching for it.

I liked the 6spd. transmission concept, still do over a year later.
It's a perfect fit for my wife and I.
As for the rear seat, back seat riders ride free, what more can I say.
We've only had one couple ride in the back for a few blocks.
So the clock loses a minute a week or more. Who cares I'm retired!
I just love the way she handles and looks. Did I say I love her?

I checked out the Fit; Yarus; Accent; Rio; Fiesta.

The Fiesta beat out the others for COMFORT; handling; style; ride (quiet and solid); COMFORT; mileage; consumer ratings/reviews. Did I mention COMFORT? The seats, pedal placement (I got the 6-speed auto), head room, and steering wheel adjustment are absolutely perfect for me ... 6'1", bit over 200 lbs. None of the others even came close to the comfort level of the Fiesta.

I'm grinning every time I drive it. Especially when the road gets curvy. Just got back from visiting the family for Thanksgiving. Four hour trip and no pressure points on my back, butt, or legs. At all. This is the most comfortable car I've ever owned.

Honda fit wasnt much of a thrill to drive, seats felt horrible, and overpriced for what you got. Also it was fugly. Im not a honda fan.
Versa, drove like a turtle on valium and handled like a drunken giraffe.
    Spark, see versa.
    Smart fortwo hahahahahahaha no
Scion IQ are you kidding me?

I decided on the Fiesta because:
    1: its a Ford
2: power, handling, and comfort were leagues above the others.
    3: SYNC/MFT
    4: fuel economy
5: looked better (seriously its a baby Aston)
6: felt more secure and safe
    7: its a Ford

My wife wanted manual shift, I wanted a convertible, and we both wanted something small and cheap. I couldn't find a convertible, and next best seemed to be a Fiesta with a sunroof/moonroof.

This combination of features, manual shift + moonroof, is apparently not very popular. We had to order one, and after 3 months, it still hasn't arrived.

I tried to lower my wife's expectations by quoting some reviews that said the Fiesta drives like a golf cart. I'm hoping that's not really true.
