I'm taking mine to the Yukon later this summer. It's about 1500 km of straight mountains. If nobody else answers before then, I'll post.

I went over the mountain pass last winter 4 times. It was snowy, ice, and slow going, but I felt very safe in my Fiesta. I had studless snowtires and no issues. I have a few trips this summer and look forward to them. Passing lanes were still useful for me and I felt more confident than I was in my old Escort!

I used neither of those functions. I drove very slowly because of the road conditions and other drivers. Sorry...

Thanks! The hills I have driven in, were the foothills of the Rockies, some might think that those are mountains... I didn't need to use the 'L', I used it for fun mostly.

I drive the Coquihalla highway frequently.
In the winter I ran Conti Extreme Winter Contact studless tires and it was great. No struggles whatsoever. Cancelling O/D is easy - or just give the accellerator a sharp quick kick and the transmission gears down - however I find it tends to hold the lower gear a bit longer than I'd like (i.e. when I get up to the speed I want, it will tend to hold the gear even if I ease up on the throttle, whereas other automatics would upshift) No need for me to use L, usually I just do it for short periods just for fun.
