Default mountain driving!

Would love to hear about personal experiences of driving your Fiesta Automatic in the mountains--Not in hills but in mountains! Thanks!

I'm taking mine to the Yukon later this summer. It's about 1500 km of straight mountains. If nobody else answers before then, I'll post.

Thumbs up

I went over the mountain pass last winter 4 times. It was snowy, ice, and slow going, but I felt very safe in my Fiesta. I had studless snowtires and no issues. I have a few trips this summer and look forward to them. Passing lanes were still useful for me and I felt more confident than I was in my old Escort!

I'm especially interested in how well canceling overdrive works and how using "Low" works. And ... have a great trip to the Yukon!

I used neither of those functions. I drove very slowly because of the road conditions and other drivers. Sorry...

Thanks! The hills I have driven in, were the foothills of the Rockies, some might think that those are mountains... I didn't need to use the 'L', I used it for fun mostly.

I drive the Coquihalla highway frequently.

In the winter I ran Conti Extreme Winter Contact studless tires and it was great. No struggles whatsoever.

Cancelling O/D is easy - or just give the accellerator a sharp quick kick and the transmission gears down - however I find it tends to hold the lower gear a bit longer than I'd like (i.e. when I get up to the speed I want, it will tend to hold the gear even if I ease up on the throttle, whereas other automatics would upshift)

No need for me to use L, usually I just do it for short periods just for fun.

I was hoping archenok would contribute. That hill is looong and steep.
