1.0 tuners, extra hp

What are we using for tuners guys? My original first engine was 123 hp but the new one seems just a touch slower. Just rebuilt both axles, wheel bearing and brakes just to make sure nothing was dragging and there isn’t much difference though it does pull super even and drives so straights it’s like it’s on railroad tracks . Any other tips to get closer to 175hp? Thanks

I found this but it’s pricey. I also sent AET an email asking if they can help us out. Thanks

Unfortunately stateside we are not in a good situation. HP tuners is full of adventure, not sure I want to go there. I have been looking at those RaceChips as well. They actually seem to work well in BMWs and such, and have independent dyne results showing that much. Pumpspeed killed their MaxD world tuner right before I had finally talked myself into buying it, and no one there has indicated that they would ever make it available again.

I guess the good news for me is the 1.0 will always feel like a rocket ship compared to my Spitfire ;-)

Hi thanks for reply. Looks like this is the only decent options out there, and 37hp/60!torque is nothing to sneeze at. I think I’m gonna pull the trigger
Race chips is running a sale right now so I went ahead and bought it! Wondering if I should upgrade anything else. Only interested in spending $$$ if it equals actual hp

I will await your review, I'm settled back into running this until it explodes, putting in a crate 1.0 and doing it all over again so a little more power seems like a good thing...

Crate 1.0? That’s awesome. I’m planning to rebuild the original engine that is sitting on an engine stand in my garage but waiting for the right reputable engine rebuilder. Ultimately I will do forged pistons and try to hit the 250 hp mark knowing I will have to upgrade the transmission along the way. Who rebuilds these things in the states?

Couldn’t help myself with the race chip on its way to me, I wanted to try this kit out and at least try to get close to 180hp. Pretty excited. Always loved ford fiestas and bought this POS new in 2015 so I’ve waited 8 years, 2 engines and 100k to do this. I’ll post results when it’s all tested and working, I’m hoping to have it done by the beginning of June

Race chip is awesome, but here’s the saga
-installed CAI, hard pipes etc first and took it on a test run and it had a touch more low end torque
-hated the woosh of air when letting up on gas
-installed racechip and was blown away with the performance but then experienced bucking and surging
-replaced old cracked BOV with shortie plumb back kompact valve
Installed factory air box , no more woosh!
-now I get occasional surging but BOV still needs to be dialed in and perfected unless something else is causing the issue

conclusion- skip the CAI and get the race chip. For me, this is my “hot rod” so I’m good with all the upgrades but the chip itself is great. I opted for the app control which is nice because the guy who writes the tunes can push you updates for the torque curves which is great.
Thanks for the update! I am still pondering intakes, I can’t imagine I’ll be doing a full set of pipes, but the air box may go. I do like the app control option, if nothing else to keep the wear to a minimum when just puttering. So you haven’t run the chip on a fully stock intake?

There are a few stateside sources for crate motors, Pumaspeed actually has them as well for a reasonable price including shipping depending on the exchange rate.

I’d love to switch this over to a 6-speed, it would definitely help this little motor. Looks fairly straightforward with factory pieces, be great to be able to get a less meh shifter if nothing else😉

6 speed would be helpful, I see the conversion kits but I’m not sure one can justify the cost unless building a rally car. Haha

Today I went to beat on the car some more and it just is not working out. When I turn the race chip off, all the problems go away so I’m just yanking it out and getting a refund. The guy at racechip support suggested I take a refund because they can see the results as I’m driving and it’s just not good for my car.

It’s possible I have a vacuum leak somewhere or I don’t know what? It sounds like a vacuum line is collapsing itself under the boost suction. If I had nothing but time and money I might chase this down but i think I’m making the wise decision here.

The new pipes and BOV do about enough to keep me interested for now but I’m also super bummed because when it IS working, it’s feels like you are riding a YZ 250, if that makes any sense to you
