Armrest is the death of a good console. Even with the automatic I am currently driving, I hit it with my elbow shifting into drive. Its too far back to have any real use. I logged just about 18k miles on a Fiesta and never once wished it had an armrest, only rejoiced in the fact that it did not. They get in the way, always a collection point of crap that makes noise over bumps, and are too far away from the steering wheel to actually function as an arm rest while driving. The ergonomics are so outstanding in the Fiesta, there is zero fatigue in your arms after a long drive. The diameter and placement of the steering wheel are perfect.

There are a number of Fiesta armrests on eBay UK. Not sure how they will work with the redesigned US console. If you are interested in one, eBay might be a good option to start looking.

I think that it depends on your body dimensions. Personally, I love a center armrest. And I don't text. My Ranger FX4 has one and I added one to my Yaris. The Ranger armrest was way too high for me when it was new and I ended up cutting & re-welding the mount to lower it to the top of the console.

I never have a need for an arm rest. Most people I see driving use the arm rest to hold their elbow while they text and drive.

Exactly mrbird!

If you're interested accessories like this the Fiesta isn't the car for you....I would think a Honda Civic would more likely be you're cup of tea if you like things like this.

That is one of the reasons I love the Fiesta..it was designed with DRIVING in mind...not texting, not eating, DRIVING....

Most Europeans do not ever eat and rarely drink beverages in their car..PERIOD!

I have it from a very good source at Ford and was told in fact Ford will be making the armrest a FLA (Ford Licensed Accessory) that you can order from a local dealer.

I can tell you this, and I will be making a seperate post about it. If you want the FLA one, Team Ford Lincoln Mercury will be selling them at TeamFordparts.com for wholesale prices when they do arrive.

I hardly eat in my car and usually I just have a can of Arizona Southern Style Tea to drink when on long trips or a bottle of Lipton Brisk Sweetened Tea thats about it. The phone goes on my Zune Pad and stays there until I'm parked.

I'm planning on an arm rest, the boomerrange one look great, some on Ebay form the UK look OK, a lot cheaper, but you get what you pay for, or it should be, you don't get what you don't pay for. Perhaps I'll make one! Wood covered in vinyl and some foam padding. Easy, about 40 hours of labor, no problem! I am a great wood worker! I'll drive it a while, I may find I don't need one.

Just be carefull making any kind of modification to the vehicle. Things could come dislodged in a crash, and become little missles. Just a little insight. BTW, this is from personal experince.

I have ordered a Boomerang armrest. I think it will be nice to have on long trips. I will not have it in the car during autocrosses though. That is what is SO wonderful about BOLTS Golfstrom. They can be UN bolted fairly easily. Many, MANY Fiesta owners will use their car as basic transport. It will never be driven for any other reason than to get to work. And that is perfectly OK.
