Um, i'm not sure if this makes sense to you or not, but if the CEL keeps coming on perriodically for the filler neck HOLE... wouldn't that mean there is still a problem with it that the dealer needs to fix? I've never heard brake cleaner plugging a hole before, but if this problem grows and damages something else, they can deny the warranty repair because YOU neglected to repair it.

I don't know about you, but sense is not being made with your story.

Engine check light? Crud? Capless fuel filler problem?

Hey People,
The whole point of this thread should not be to recommend the purchase of a scanner for US to fix our nearly new cars! It should be to form a consensus on the problem and recommend a real fix. Way too many of us have had this same problem for it to be caused by "crud" delivered by the pump nozzle--when did any of you ever see any crud on the nozzle that might cause such a problem!?

Everything I've read on this forum points to a design flaw in the much touted capless filler. It just doesn't work correctly and Ford will have to accept that and fix the problem--and better NOW than when they have a million cars out there to fix.

My light just came on this weekend and I read through the manual like crazy to see what it could be.. my engine coolant reservoir was lingering around the minimum so Im gonna top that up first before I check the capless tank seal.

Sorry, but I must dis-agree with you. Several or even a hundred capless fuel doors problems does not mean a design flaw. To many of us and world wide Fiesta do not have a problem. Could there be another design to use? Of course. Could it be better? Maybe. Could it add more cost to the car? Most likely. Does the current system work for the vast majority of the Fiestas? Yes! Are there other areas that need improvement before they fix a non-broken design? Yes.
Did Ford try and build a small inexpensive car with as many bells and whistles as possible and offer that car at a very affordable price? Yes! Did they cut corners in the process? Most likely. Would the vast majority of Fiesta buyers still buy the Fiesta if all these minor irritations were eliminated and the cost went up a thousand or more? I highly doubt it.

I own a U.S.A. spec Fiesta in Italy, and evidently the filler mouth is just a hair too small for the European nozzle because when attempting to fuel the car, the pump stops multiple times in the process. It seems that there is not enough air flow so the pump senses a "full tank" and thus shuts down. It's very annoying for the person pumping the fuel. Anyone have that problem? Is that also a problem in the States?

AND NOW: I too have the check engine light which the machanic was good enough to reset. He (the Italian mechanic) has seen "several" U.S.A. spec Fiestas with this problem which he attibutes to the capless tank filler tube. Either there is something holding the cap slightly open or the "capless' is defective. Give me the old fashioned cap anyday! Comments anyone?
don't hold the trigger/handle all the way in when filling, let it fill slowly, and it shouldn't be as much of a problem, if at all.

You'd think they would have done something about the powershift transmission too, but they haven't. Ford Motor Company does not care, that's the problem. They won't put out a recall, they won't fix these things.

Like someone else said their justification is that most people will not have a problem with it.

In the mean time just make sure your fuel nozel is clean and be careful with your car.

I really don't know how you can say all of that. Ford has released several TSBs to address various shifting issues. I'm sure you've also read that the shift characteristics of this new-technology transmission have dragged down their overall quality perception, so you can be certain they haven't stopped their efforts - but these changes don't happen overnight.

However you are absolutely 100% correct that Ford won't be put out a recall. Recalls are ONLY for safety or emission compliance issues. But will they put out any type of owner satisfaction programs as they make progress on improving the characteristics of this transmission? Only time will tell.

Kabukiman, you may want to click on Is your 2012 Focus (auto) haveing transmission problems yet?

Apparently Ford just announced a Customer Satisfaction Program (NOT to be confused with a recall!) to inprove the shift characteristics on the Focus version of the DPS6 tranmission.

So don't give up hope yet! Obviously Ford truly is listening to their customers and is making an effort to inprove satisfaction with their products.

I haven't been on the forum in a while, so I apologize if this has been covered already. Anyway...a few weeks ago, my check engine light came on. No issues far as I could tell with engine/transmission/etc problems, but took it in first chance I had. Turns out there was some dirt/debris in the capless fuel filler area which caused it to not seal. From what I gather, the fix from the dealer was simply taking the funnel in and out of it til it broke loose. Tooke almost 2 hours to do that apparently. Oh well, it fixed the light and have had no other issues since. Guess I can't complain about that. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Hey, my check engine light is on in my 3019 Ford Fiesta Sedan and it’s my gas tank filler neck that needs replacing (according to the check engine thing at Autozone and O’Reillys. Every time I get gas my car will not turn over for 5-10 minutes. I thought it was my battery but nope. Apparently it’s a necessity… who knew. Anyway, less than $200 to fix.
