Dealers originally told me early May for the cars to arrive, and 8 weeks from order to get one of my own. I see that's not true now.

I'm starting to think that if Ford isn't going to start delivering Fiestas I may consider a Fit. At this point if I don't get to drive one until July, and I order one with 12 weeks being a realistic delivery, that brings me to October.

I consider October to be almost Winter, and the idea of getting a new car just in time to subject it to an Illinois Winter (and the salt!) doesn't appeal to me. At that point I might as well wait until Spring.

I was wondering if anyone here seriously considered the Fit and if so, what pushed you over to the Fiesta.

My Explorer is at the point now where I'm putting a few hundred dollars into it every couple of months, so I need to move on something.

I was really jazzed up about the Fiesta, but if I can get a new 2010 Fit at an end-of-model-year price it may be worth considering.

Ford isn't going to deliver Fiesta's? Everyone is freaking out saying that Ford isn't shipping Fiesta's or dealers are coming up with wild delivery times. I don't think anyone had a retail order that was due in before 6/21. All the info said the car is coming this summer, which happens to start 6/21. By that math, no car is technically late. I don't know about the cars the dealers were supposed to get, since I heard all sorts of wild stories from dealers saying they have all these cars coming in for stock. Some dealers do have them, others do not. If you wanted a car in June, you really needed to get your order in months ago. I had expected from the beginning to get my car in June, which seems to be correct since I have a delivery of 6/30. I did have some issues with the dealer playing games with my order, which may have caused some delay in getting it built. They said another person ordered a sedan, and they knew them better, so they put their order in front of mine. I called BS on that since I ordered my car in Feb and they walked in late May. None of that delay is Ford's fault, it is the dealer acting stupid. They also made a number of mistakes concerning my reservation. That process is no more, so nobody will have that issue again. Working with the dealer was less than fun, and it took some complaining and phone calling to get things straight. In the end, my car is arriving about the time I thought it would. I got really lucky that mine did not sit very long once completed until shipped. Just pure luck was all that was. Just like in the movie Vacation, parked near the exit and you are the first out.

If you want a Fiesta, I would suggest getting one on order. The plant is upto speed and the trains are shipping them out. You can buy a Fit instead, but I think you won't be as happy as you would be in a Fiesta. Sure, the Fit has slightly more cargo room, but that is the only advantage. The Fiesta is a much better driver's car, which is why I would never consider the Fit.

I have considered a Honda Civic, but not a Fit. They just don't look very good. In fact, I'd never considered a hatchback before I saw the Fiesta styling. The Fit is a good car I am sure, but I'd rather wait the extra weeks to get a Fiesta. It looks nicer and has benefits (SYNC, Euro styling and handling, American owned company...) that the Honda can't beat.

Sure I looked at a Fit. It's just plain ugly!! Too tall, and less mpg. The Fiesta should beat it most areas. Back seat is bigger(misFit), but I don't sit back there, so why do I care. My Ford dealer is like five minutes form me. Honda is almost an hour. Quality, well, JD Powers says Ford beat Honda!:):p:D The Civic has cracked engine blocks, big time. I hate waiting for mine, but it will get here, just not on Monday, like they said.

Dan,

65 Corvair:cool:
11 Fiesta on Monday:rolleyes:

I would wait...

My parents have a Fit Sport and it is just okay. It's a bit odd looking/minivan-ish and fairly slow. Minor pt: the carpeting is of extremely poor quality.

With the 5-speed, it's not bad, but you have to rev it constantly to keep up forward motion. It handles pretty well, but I haven't driven it enough to see what Car and Driver is raving about. I considered one (but only for about 5 seconds!).

I would wait for the Fiesta (it really does seem to be a class up to me). I have also been impatient and went to drive a VW Golf a couple days back. I liked it, but my heart is really with the Fiesta, so I'm going to hang in a bit longer! If you absolutely can't wait, how about a Golf, Mini, Focus or Mazda3? Good luck....

Of all the hatchbacks, the Fit is the only one I didn't even consider. It's a dorky little minivan with terrible proportions that make it look almost as silly as a Smart car. That said, if you completely ignore it's looks, I think it's a pretty good car and if you wouldn't feel foolish being seen in one, go for it. ;)

Never considered a FIT. I wasn't even looking for a new car until I saw the new Fiesta on the back of the MyFord magaziine.

Sure, I was upset that my delivery date has been pushed back and there has been no movement shown since it was put on a railcar but, as several others on this forum have explained, in a few days I may see several days worth of updates all at once.

I do hope the current ETA is correct or that it actually arrives sooner as I've sold my '01 Cadillac and am driving my pickup which doesn't get very good mpg.

the Fit is too dorky :) I sat in one at the Auto Show and didn't care for it. sadly they had two Fiesta sedans but no hatch on the floor that was unlocked so we could sit in them the auto show but Ford had both a sedan and manual hatch on display at WHQ during an event that was open to the public so I sat in the hatch. at the auto show I wanted to show my buddies that the hatch cargo area was in fact bigger than the sedan trunk.

The only way I would consider a Fit is if it had a 6 speed manual and/or had a taller final gear. It seems to drone a bit for my tastes (on the highway.) Of course this vehicle seems to be marketed as a city car. You can't blame a tiger for being a tiger.

I'm also from Illinois so I hear where you are coming from with the snow/salt.

The only other car I've crossed shopped against the Fiesta is the Suzuki Swift (though Suzuki has been tight lipped about this one - almost to being the complete opposite of how Ford pre-marketed the Fiesta.)

My order did (and still does) have a delivery date of 6/15 but so far as of today (6/19) it's still in Mexico. Not saying that that is a big deal but did want to say that some of us had expected delivery dates before the start of summer.

Did I consider the Fit? Not at all, I started out looking for used 4-5 year old Subarus and SAAB 9-2X's but went with the Fiesta because Subaru prices here in the Northwest are insane and with the pre-order discount the Fiesta actually turned out to be cheaper. The only other car I seriously considered was the Nissan Leaf but the odd styling, high price and the difficulty of getting one (only 900 were allocated for the area and they sold out very quickly) made me go with the Fiesta.

If I wasn't going to get a Fiesta, I considered a 2007 Mustang GT/CS in white, Lancer Sportback, used WRX STi (good luck finding one unmodded), or a Mini Cooper S. The Fit would not make my top 100 list of cars I would want. Actually, none of the other B-segment cars make my list.
