to be close enough to pick up a draft from another car would mean you would be too close for safety. I would not suggest doing that for the sake of MPG. If someone was getting that close to me, it would be a quick downshift and WOT to escape.
I was seeing 45 to 46 MPG in a pre-production unit w/ cruise on at 75MPH, AC on drafting behind folks ~ 2-3 car lengths. That's just the normal car spacing on the expressway I drive during rush hour.
I did see the Mythbusters episode. I think they said they got something like 85% increase in fuel efficiency (is that right?) but they were right on the semi's tail.
Of course, this is normal driving in Chicago.
