Integrated Blind Spot Mirrors, useful or distraction?

I have my fiesta 2014 and drove for a month. I am a old school driver, I always turn my head and look at my blind spot. Since I had the Fiesta with Integrated Blind Spot Mirrors, I feel more like distraction than been useful because I need to spend a extra second to look at that tiny small mirror and judge it's that car really in my blind spot?. Just wondering, are any Fiesta owner actually use that Integrated Blind Spot Mirrors and find useful? Maybe I set up those side mirror the wrong way too. Both of my side mirrors could see the backdoors handle.

Your side mirrors should be adjusted to not see the side of the car. What I was told once was to put the mirror where you can see the side of the car, then move it just a bit more so you can no longer see the side of the car. It should work so that when a car starts to leave the center mirror you immediately see it in the side mirror. I don't have a Fiesta so I can't say anything about the blind spot mirrors. I always look behind me as well. It's amazing what can hide in a blind spot and I never trust my mirrors alone. I hate riding with people that only trust their mirrors. I've had close calls even when I did check my mirrors and look behind me.

I have the mirrors adjusted so I can just barely see the rear door handle. As a result I have about 3 full lanes of vision including the blind-spot mirrors. Because of the large C pillar, the hatch may need to be adjusted slightly differently. But I also use my eyes to verify things.

One of the many reasons why I bought the Fiesta. I think they are a God send. Very often I don't have time to turn my head due to heavy traffic or busy road congestion. Those mirrors more than once saved my bacon. When changing lanes from left to right I still turn the head but the mirrors are my first line of defense. I think all cars should be so equipped.

When I got my 2011 SE, at first I didn't like them but then grew to find then usefull.
And now they are just part of the scene.
It is just a matter of getting used to them.
I just wish they would make the right side mirror normal and not the "objects may be closer" thing we are forced to have.
Having driven trucks and school buses I am a great mirror user.

I think they are great. But I still turn my head and look before changing lanes. If I see a car in the blind spot mirror I don't need to turn my head to know I can't change lanes. Since I'm changing lanes because the car in front is slow and too close, I still am looking forward.

I love the blind spot mirrors.

I have my mirrors adjusted correctly to get rid of blind spots also. I use these mirrors more for checking two lanes away from me (turning your head 90 degrees to the side doesn't quite see this area). I don't use them to be able to see the lane next to me.

Pretty much like that, the way I have my mirrors adjusted, as long as the car in the left lane appears in my inside mirror it is safe to pull in front. A car passing me first is in the inside mirror then in the left mirror and then in the blind spot just before it is in my peripheral vision. No need to turn my head.

I've never had a car with side mirrors like these, so they took a bit of getting used to. Certainly, in the hatchback, with the wide C-pillar obfuscating the rear-side views, I find the side mirrors far more necessary than in previous cars. I have them set up so that the side of the car is just off the side of the mirror - I can glimpse the car's side if I lean over. This seems to give me the best angle.

I think they are a nice feature, tough, it requires a bit of getting used to them. I keep just ignoring them or getting confused, thinking the car I see on the small mirror is actually on the line next to me, when is actually two lanes from me. In the other hand, the fiesta has a very big blind spot, just yesterday those little mirrors saved me from going into a black BMW I had no idea was there. My old MK5 had this huge truck-like mirrors, and I had no issues with blind spots. I think I just need to program my brain to take full advantage of them

It was weird at first when I had the S, but it didn't take long for me to get used to them. I already had the habit of adjusting my mirrors to see as little of the sides of my car as possible, so I was pleasantly surprised at the extra viewing space. People here are very aggressive drivers, so the blind spot mirrors help me see someone I might not have seen without the blindspot mirrors. So I like them and I think they're quite useful. :)

Since this was brought back from the dead.... I am not a fan of these BSM's. Although the field of vision is larger, it then introduces an additional amount of uncertainty when you see an object in the BSM. Non-BSM's that are adjusted properly have always served me well when driving passenger cars or pick-ups. Are there standard mirrors that can be fitted, say, from an older / EU model?

I use them all the time, I have them adjusted so where I see the car behind me (either side) before it gets in my blind spot and while it's in my blind spot until it's right beside me then it's obvious to not move over. I still usually turn around anyway, can never be too safe but they've never let me down and have helped out very much.
