I took the service tech for a ride along. He said everything sounded normal...until I hit around 67 mph and held the throttle. I made a comment on how this can be annoying while driving. He said he'll have their transmission tech check it out. After about an hour, I was told this is normal for the car.
I've been a life-long Ford buyer, Fairmont, Capri, Escort, Escort again, Taurus, Fusion, Fiesta.
If this is normal for the car, the Fiesta will be by last Ford.

The great majority of manual transmission Fiesta owners do not have this problem, so it is definitely not "normal for this car". Usually, you get that kind of response from the dealer when they do not want to attempt to fix the problem. If the dealer has a new manual transmission Fiesta on the lot, you should insist that you drive with the service manager in the new Fiesta at the same speed range to see if the noise appears on that Fiesta. If it does not make the noise, you should insist that Ford do something about the noise. Megan should be able to help you with this.

I suspect that the dealer does not want to work on your Fiesta because the service technician is not sure what is causing the problem. As you can see from this series of posts, there is not a lot of consensus as to what it causing the high-pitched whine that some Fiestas exhibit. The noise occurs over a certain speed range, which implies that it is caused by some sort of resonance. Hopefully, Ford will dedicate an engineer to this problem to see if they can find the source of the high-pitched whine and will end up sending out a TSB to give guidance to the service technicians on how to solve the problem.

Just to be clear, I love Ford. This Fiesta is by far my favorite that I have owned. The whine at highway speed, as said by my daughter, sounds like a dentist's drill. It is not intermittent, but constant. Since most of my driving is done around town, it doesn't affect me on a daily basis, but trips to Ann Arbor to visit my son in college is a 45 minute whine. I plan on escalating this to Ford HQ. My selling dealer says it's characteristic of the Fiesta, and today's dealer gave me the service order stating it is normal for the Fiesta. If this were a normal sound, my dealer wouldn't be hesitant about letting me drive a comparable 5-speed Fiesta on the lot.

Please send me a private message with your VIN, best daytime phone number, full name, and dealer info. I'll check out some options.

Well I am going to chime in in my transmission noise also as I just got back from the dealer for service / inspection.

My symptoms are as follows:
When in neutral transmission makes a high pitch whining noise that changes tone with the RPM. If you slide the clutch in the sound goes away.
When driving in all first and second you can hear said whining noise and when cruising in other gears you can hear the noise when maintaining a speed. I do lots of highway driving and this becomes annoying very fast.

Today I took my Fiesta in for service and to have them check for transmission noises. The service manager acknowledged that there was what he thought was a input shaft bearing noise while in neutral and while driving but said he didn't want to "start throwing parts at it". We then took a 2016 out for a test drive and had the same noise. He deemed that it was "normal" for a Fiesta as 2 were making the same noise (mine and the 2016 one). I requested for the fluid level to be checked and it was full and clean. The manager said that he looked into any TSB and there was none for this issue but he will do some research on it and touch base tomorrow.

If nothing comes up should I try another dealer or ? I just find that a new car shouldn't sound like my old Focus that had 300,000km's on it!!!

Little update: Took my Fiesta to the dealer this morning. They're going to keep it until probably Monday. They are going to take apart the transmission, and look for any issues. I'm OK with that, as progress is being made, but Ford will not authorize a loaner for that time, even though this is a warranty issue. Costco, however, came through with a rental of a 2015 Focus for $54 for 5 days.

Seeking a second opinion's always a good options. What's the year and kilometers on your Fiesta?

I couldn't agree more, I heard back from the service manager the other day and he said that he is touching base with other dealers to see if the ones they have on their lot make the same noise. He keeps saying he doesn't want to "Throw parts at it" which I agree but the sounds are annoying.

Vehicle has only 11000km on it. With the noise it makes in 5th gear cruising along I have been leaving my car at home in favor for my Truck as its more peaceful to drive even with a full exhaust system lol

I am having this exact noise being made in my '14 Fiesta. Took it to the dealership and was told it was a "normal" noise.
I insisted it still be looked at, and am now awaiting them to write Ford and get a response as how to inspect it.

Megan, would you be able to assist me in the same way you assisted Millennium XL?

I’m glad I found this thread, been having the same symptoms as the OPcuemark8 as well as others in this thread Millennium XL-200 & DaCoupe

What was the final verdict for the others, it seems that Millennium XL-200 has had his transmission replaced, but what about the others?

I am experiencing the same problems, supercharger/whining sound when clutch is engaged (pedal not pressed) and no more sound when the clutch is not engaged (pedal is pressed in). I did take it to my dealer, and they acknowledge the sound, and was advised it wasn’t a first time that this happened on a “manual fiesta” and a first fix they will be trying on my Fiesta is changing out the transmission oil, for fresh oil; this supposedly eliminated some of the sound as per my service advisor, but it is still present, will see this evening when I pick up the car and tomorrow morning at a cold start-up.

My dealer did tell me that on the previous Fiesta they worked on with the same problems, they had replaced literally everything in the transmission and there was still a bit of a sound to it, which they deemed normal after the fact. I will not be accepting this as a final results, and if push comes to serve, I will request a new transmission altogether.

For those that have not had their transmission changed, is the sound still present, did you transmission blow up on you? What did you do?

Thanks,
JP

What fluid is recommended in the manual for your fiesta? I drive an ST and am curious if you have the same spec oil or not.
