I just got my renewal notice for the next 6 months and my rate went down 117.96 for the next period. That puts the rate just 1 dollar more than I am paying for the 08 Focus that my wife drives. I guess the IIHS testing had a positive effect on my rate. YEAHHH.

My insurance only went up $18.70 every 6 months...going from a 2001 Cadillac to the 2011 Fiesta SES. :D

Our rates with Progressive

2009 Focus SES Sedan: $555.00
2011 Fiesta SE Sedan: $634.00

The Fiesta is supposed to be SAFER than the Focus.....what is going on here?

That is about what I was quoted originally but I had to wait for the next renewal which just happened and it went down. Luckly I only had to pay 3 months until my next renewal.

Your Focus amount is 5 dollars higher than mine for a 6 month period with my wife listed as the primary driver and using it for her work driving ,Hospice Nurse, which they do know about.

My rates went down $30 a month, coming from a 2007 Hyundai Sonata and into my Fiesta last month.

Maybe women are less of a risk too...

My wife drives the 09......funny thing is she is younger than me, by 12 years you would think that would affect it.

Men pay higher insurance, generally. Other extraneous factors like color, driving/vehicle trends, customer loyalty, incentives, discounts, driving records, etc probably play into it too.

That's what i thought...

I guess it plays in with living in a big market area as well, I have a class A CDL, have had it since 93 clean driving record and have been with Progressive 6 years in the "diamond club" so I guess it's probably just that it's new, and at this point "unknown" as far as history of repair costs etc. I am sure by next year it will come down.

My wife's also went down about $90/6mo... they updated it mid term and took off the difference of what we paid the previous month and applied it to the next month (we pay month to month), so next month is super cheap :)

I was surprised that my insurance costs went down with the Fiesta. I have always had 30/60/20 coverage with a high deductible to keep costs down. But, not feeling comfortable carrying that little of coverage anymore, I was going to upgrade to the standard 100/300/50 but found I was able to get 250/500/100 coverage with a $1250 deductible for only $690 a year. Very happy.

Our insurance just went up $48 for 6 months, not bad since my wife is 60 and I'm 63. For full coverage, I certainly don't consider the $8-per-month increase to be onerous by any means.

Mine went up only 30.00 every 6 months which would be expected since I am insuring a car that is 6 years newer. I had full coverage for a 2004 Pontiac Aztek before and low deduct. of 250 collision and no deduct comprehensive and I just turned 50 with no accidents. I also have a multi line discount with my homeowners but I will be paying 624.00 a year for mine.

My insurance went up as well by only about $44/6mo. It's not much of an increase to worry me, my premium is still only $486/6mo for the standard 30/10/30 and a $500 deductible (GEICO).

My insurance went up about 130-ish every 6 months from my Focus when I got my Fiesta last month. Luckily my insurance renews in a few weeks, I am hoping the rate goes back down. Most of the increase in cost (at least in my case) was in the comprehensive collision coverage.

My insurance went down too, even though I was trading in a larger car with a very good safety reputation. I'm guessing they deduct for things like stability, ABS, side-air-bags etc.

Ugh.

My insurance went up, but I also upped my coverage:

Minimum required coverage on Escort (previous car): ~$70/mo
Full coverage on Fiesta (including $500 deductible): ~$127/mo
Both cars (until I sell the Escort): $159/mo

This is where being only 25 has its drawbacks. No moving violations, nothing on the record in the past 3 years actually, and never any tickets for anything ever. I still get owned by the insurance company. I'd shop around but I am loyal to a fault and actually like my agent pretty well :\

That isn't a bad rate actually. If you look at it correctly you are only paying $89 a month for the Fiesta compared to your old rate.
Loyalty is nice but in todays insurance and interest rates if they aren't taking care of you and giving you the best rate possible why be loyal to them because they really aren't being that loyal to you.

I learned this a while back with my insurance company at the time. I found a lower rate with a big name company and went to my agent to have them match it. He told me that he couldn't even though I had been with them for 10 years. I left without hesitation and I was actually shocked at the unwillingness to even try and keep me as a customer.

Money talks and can also walk when need be.
