So my 1.0 has been over heating a lot, getting steadily worse. Noticed a crack in the coolant reservoir, so I replace it, but no dice. I know thermostats and radiator fans are typical issues, but how do I test for each?

Some info: turbo cuts out when display shows too hot, hot air blows fine, ac does not get cold, coolant reservoir is filled with the correct fluid

I have a 1.6 non turbo but probably the same cooling fan. Mine failed - a mechanic asked a very good question:

"Does it overheat during city driving, traffic, stop lights etc... but does NOT overheat during freeway (no stopped traffic) driving?"

That is what mine did, and the fan would run, but not always or long enough. Replaced the fan only and it's been perfect like new ever since. If your car does not overheat at constant higher speeds where there's lots of air flow like freeway driving then it's probably the fan.
