Hello Fellow Faction members!
As some of you may know, I've been interested in researching SCCA and Autocrossing. I've read the rules a few different times now and I think I've established what can and cannot be done in the class I would like to start in.
My question is regarding tire sizes. I'm a total n00b when it comes to selecting the right tire for a specific rim. So I thought I'd just throw my question out there and see what you guys might say.
Right now I'm looking at the Sparco Assetto Gara rims from Tire Rack. I'm looknig to buy some 15x6.5 sized rims and I'm sort of confused with what tire I should pair with the rim. Because of H Stock class rules, I'm stuck with running a 15x6.5 inch rim based on an SE hatchback rim size. But what size tire would I use?
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, But the stock tire size is 195-60-15. Does that mean I should be looking for a 195-60-15 tire? Does anything stop me from running a 205-50-15 tire? Am I forced to run 195 width tires because of SCCA rules? What about Sidewall aspect ratio. Can I run a tire with 50 rated ratio? or am I forced to 60?
I'm going to read the rules again 1 more time to see if I missed something. But what do you guys think I should do? I'm looking into buying R-compound tires and Tire Rack seems to have acceptable prices. I'd like to get the rims and tires off the same site but I just can't seem to find the right sizes for the tires.
Any help would be appreciated.
