M-Sport, the company running Ford's World Rally Championship team, and constructor of the Fiesta ST and Focus RS WRC rally cars has announced that it is working on a Fiesta-based rally car to comply with the Super 2000 regulations. Currently in use by the Production World Rally Championship and Intercontinental Rally Challenge (alongside the current Group N rules), and to be adopted by the World Rally Championship from 2010.

The entire Fiesta S2000 project is being funded entirely by M-Sport, it looks to be a smart move, Ford has yet to commit to the World Rally Championship after it's 2009 campaign. Not having to fund the development of a S2000-spec car to comply with the new regulations will probably appeal to Ford.
