Test drove '09 Aveo tonight, Ugh

I can't believe in 2009 that they still make cars like this. What a piece of crap! I drove a brand new '09 Aveo 5 door hatchback. It's amazing how small this car is from the outside, much like the Fiesta but how incredibly roomy it is on the inside also just like the Fiesta. That is where the similarities END. It demonstrated very sloppy steering and handling and seemed incredibly crude and unrefined.

I had abolutely no intention whatsoever of buying an Aveo. This was strictly an "out of curiosity" test drive. The Fiesta is light years ahead of the Aveo.

Go Ford Motor Company!
Make it happen.

My brother has a 2008 Aveo sedan... the engine feels like it's wound up with a rubber band... hit the upper revs, and that rubber band feels like it's going to snap! There is a reason GM is in the ****, and the Aveo is a prime example. Well, that and the Pontiac G3.
yeah I like the look of the 5-door but i think i can wait for the Fiesta (they have more power from the 1.6L= 120bhp!) so yes... GO BLUE!
I need to get out and test an Aveo and a Fit. I could have figured the Aveo would be crap, and besides a few models, I have not been impressed with anything coming out of GM. Perhaps one night after work I will stop by the local dealer and test out an Aveo. Should I ask them what the trade in value is on my Fiesta? :p

you can test drive a car w/o buying it? anyway good luck I dont think the dealer would be mad but ya never know! :)
I have driven all sorts of cars that I did not buy. BMW M3, Mini Cooper S, Mustang GT's, WRX, Audi's, the new Fusion, and countless other cars over the years. Most of the time a salesperson rides with me, but not always. The Mini was one of the only cars that I drove and actually went there with the thought of buying it.

Did you drive to the dealer in the Fiesta? Did he see the car?

I once test drove a Nissan 350Z. The dealer very much wanted to sell it to me, even after I told him that I live in Europe. Actually that made him even more eager to sell it to me as he knew these Nissans are more expensive here in Europe than Stateside.
I drove a manual (as we all do overhere), but 'testing' it at 55Mph on a congested freeway isn't that much fun as I hoped it would be...

wow a Z! I almost did a test drive of a '09 Focus SES coupe but the salesmen said that "for buying only" so I'll try agian (I really love those Euro wheels :D)

Definitely drive those cars. You will appreciate the Fiesta that much more.

My girlfriend has an Aveo with no AC and manual windows. Sadly it was better than the Saturn Astra we test drove (just goes to show not EVERYTHING from Europe is good)... GM has a long way to go :(

Sales of Opel Astras have been strong in Europe for decades. But I checked the figures of the Kadett/Astra vs Focus in the Netherlands (I don't know where to find German or British numbers on the web) and I must say they are declining rapidly!

Verkoopcijfers Ford Focus - AutoWeek.nl
Verkoopcijfers Opel Astra - AutoWeek.nl

The first chart is the market share, the second is number of sales.

Opel is still on the #1 stop in the Netherlands though (right clickable column) : Verkoopcijfers - AutoWeek.nl

But look at the market share of the current Fiesta!

I'd have to agree with you. My experience wasn't any better.
