My understanding is that a dry clutch still uses a fluid similar to a gear oil. A wet clutch transmission either has two sumps for gear oil and clutch cooling / lubrication, or one multipurpose fluid. The clutch cooling fluid is similar to an ATF.

The Powershift tranny used in the Fiesta has a dry clutch. Dry, as in, "no fluid of any kind". The gearbox has a lubricating fluid, but not the clutch.

I've skimmed through the "Entertainment Systems" section and still can't figure out if the USB port can be used to play music on a non-SYNC equipped car. I realize I can hook up an MP3 player to the AIJ and play music but I'm wondering if the the USB jack can be used to play music from a flash drive. Anyone know?

Since they only discuss use of USB under the device equipped w/ SYNC, I interpret as it would not be able to use a flash drive. Suspect it needs the SYNC software to recognize the file structure, etc. Probably be able to charge phones, etc using it.

Commercial follows but I think you folks would be interested:

If you haven't ordered SYNC on your vehicle it will be worth it to re-do your order. I'm sure you have read about the advantages of hands free calling, 911 autodial for accident and controlling USB with it but they recently added "Services".

You have to register at SyncMyRide but once you do you can put in locations you go to regularly and get traffic updates for the route - "Traffic to Home" Can also set it to send you a text on traffic for a route you use regularly so 30 mins before you head out you get a text saying accident on I-whatever, traffic is heavy. Another feature is downloading turn/turn directions to vehicle to anyplace. "Traffic or Directions to anytown, anystate".

Another thing about SYNC, once you get a feel for it you can turn off a lot of the prompts. Double push on voice button is kind of shut-up and listen I know what I want. You still get some confirmation prompts but way less iritating.

Since I'm an inspector by trade I felt it was my duty to find an error in the manual. :D, and on page 321, the specs call out a spark plug gap of .85 - .75". At over 3/4", that's one very large gap! The coil would be pretty hefty, indeed.

What I found most interesting is that the oil change intervals are 10,000 miles! I've never heard of an interval that high before (recommended from the factory). Both synthetic & non-synthetic oils are recommended. Also, the timing belt has to be replaced at 150,000 miles.

Thanks for answering my USB question.

There was a discussion asking my same question on a UK site and no one there mentioned SYNC being necessary to play music through the USB port

And I could swear it used to list a USB port on the SE Fiesta so I figured it would still be usable for something. Now it doesn't seem to list it on the Build site. I guess like the black/chrome LED debate, I'll find out when my car gets delivered. :)

D'oh! I think that got lost in translation...
Spark plug gap .85 -.75 inch should be mm
(0.8mm +/-0 .05mm )
.033-.030 inches

I'm replying to myself with this link just in case anyone else is interested :D;

2011 Ford Fiesta Compare Models | Official Site of the Ford Fiesta | FordVehicles.com

Under Comfort and Convenience features, it clearly shows a USB port as standard on the SE HB. I'm hoping/betting it will work with a flash drive and MP3 files without SYNC.
