I have a 2011 manual transmission, I was shifting from 3rd to 4th when the transmission stayed in neutral. The stick will freely move vertically without engaging the gears. Horizontally it feels fine. While I'm not car savvy, if it's a simple fix I should be able to figure it out myself, I just don't have the knowledge to diagnose this issue. Thanks for any help in advance

From your description it sounds like one of the shift cables came off. This could be at the shifter but I would expect it down at the transmission. There is an inspection cover on the drivers side of the transmission. That needs to be removed to check cables.
