Engine Malfunction Service Now?...

I had it to one dealer for the first two sensor replacements. This dealer replaced it the third time and now the fourth. They also want to replace the dashboard wiring harness to see if that is the issue. That is what they want me to pay for. They didn't consider the wiring harness the first three times I had it in for warranty work. Now they want me to pay to fix the problem. I can't understand why Ford will not stand behind the vehicle they sold me.
Do you have a case number, rampboy77? Please send it (or your VIN) to me via PM, and I'll check out your case.

Ford likely would've if your dealership would've done a proper diagnosis. I'm not sure if it'll help but it might be worth it to involve the forum's resident customer service rep to see if it would be possible to escalate this to Ford corporate.
Thanks!

Boy am I glad I found this site/thread. I thought I was going nuts. The first time it happened (easily 6 mos. ago) I called the dealer and they said to just start and restart (ummm really? The message said ENGINE MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW). Then is it began happening intermittently over the last few weeks - but still with no evidence of problem (vehicle health reports clean, drives fine, etc.) I’m feeling done getting this error and worrying that somethings wrong they aren’t fixing, so I’ve been attempting to schedule service. Unfortunately the dealership has ignored my calls and emails for over a week (are you listening Ford Customer Service)

Serramonte Ford = the worst service evert and from the day I drove my car off the lot I’ve regretted I bought it there. Make this better for me. I just want someone to call me back and schedule a service appointment.

I hear ya loud and clear. There are a couple things I can do here. First, I can document your feedback on this dealership. Second, I can loop in your regional customer service manager, who works with the dealer for a resolution. Will you be continuing to work with Serramonte Ford, or will you be seeking service elsewhere?

In order for me to do what I've mentioned above, please send me a private message with your VIN, mileage, best daytime phone number, full name, and preferred dealer's name/location.

Good luck, keep us updated and warm welcome to the Faction SFFiesta. Also note we have a GREAT Ford Service rep who can help you deal with getting your car fixed (shoot her a PM, she is at post #87 above for name), as well be advised you don't HAVE to go back to dealer you bought the car from for warranty work (you won't get a loaner though it sounds like you probably wouldn't with your dealer either), shop around for service just like you did buying the car !!

Thank you!!!

I am having a hard time understanding why it is that i have to take my car into the dealership only when this error appears on my display.

It would seem that if I continually get an error message instructing me to bring my car to "Service Now" and it happens after dealership hours I would be hard pressed to have this problem looked at in a timely fashion.

What reason would I have to lie about getting an error like this and in reading this whole thread and realizing that a loss of power to the drive train from an accelerator issue might cause me or my family to be put in harms way, I would think that Ford would want to rectify this issue to potentially avoid a more costly lawsuit in the event that someone might get hurt.

Anyhow I guess I'll have to wait until that error comes on again and it's within the hours of a dealership being open to be able to pull the proper codes and have this fixed. I'm getting really close, if I haven't already gone over my warranty mileage and I would hate to have it happen after my warranty is up.

Cheers,
FACE
Hi FACE,

I recommend reaching out to our FordServiceCA team, who'll be able to look into this further. Their names are Nikki and Kwasi. Since it's a Canadian holiday today, they'll be back tomorrow.

I have a 2011 Fiesta SE. I leased it new for 3 years, then bought it. My engine Malfunction comes on once in while, maybe every couple of weeks. I run the diagnostics, and it never shows any codes. When I restart the car, it's ok for the next 2 weeks. It never seems to effect the running. Mine is an automatic (6 speed). Have there been any problems with this transmission?
Welcome to the forum! Have you been to your dealer recently to look into this? Please let me know, along with your mileage.

I am officially done with Koerner, I haven't heard from them all day regarding my car they've had since monday so I called around 4:45. They said they are still working on it. Thankfully I have a loaner car but really two flipping days to diagnose and fix a car?!
Hi ERUHCK,

Shoot me a private message with your VIN, mileage, best daytime phone number, full name, and dealer name/location so I can look into this.

Drop a PM to Ford Customer Service here ... your contact info, VIN of the car, issue, etc.

I'm willing to bet they can shake the tree and get those clowns to moving. Seriously ... take it "upstairs". It's what they are here for.
Thanks, Cobra!

Frustrated and getting angry at Ford over this. Having the same exact issues as many of the other posts mention. Bought new 2/2011. "Engine Malfunction Service Now" message keeps happening....
Purchased at Peoria Ford - Peoria, Arizona...
Hi Robert,

Welcome to the forum! Please edit your post to remove your VIN for privacy reasons.

I'll be glad to jump in to see how I can assist. Please send me your VIN, mileage, your best daytime phone number, and your full name in a private message. Is this the dealer you will be using to have this take care of?

...i have an appointment on the 16 to have this checked. The mechanic is not sure what could be the problem and it seems to be an intermittent problem.
The mechanic was talking about a "TBA" if he cannot find anything. I didn't ask him what it was, someone knows? (I'm in Quebec, might be a french acronym though)...
Hi KalterBlut,

Let me know how the appointment goes. Send me a private message with your VIN, mileage, dealer name/location, your best daytime phone number, and your full name and I can pass the info along to my friends at Ford Canada. They'll be able to look into this further for you.

...I'm currently trying to work with the Ford Customer Service Manager in my area...
Hey there, GoBucks10.

Welcome to the forum!

I see you're already working with a CSM, do you have your case number handy? Send me a private message with your case number and/or your VIN and I can look into how this is progressing and get you in contact with your CSM if you need me to.

Mine has put up the "service now" with the wrench symbol twice now in the last week or so. I seems to reset the next time I start it up so I'm not sure how to proceed. Is this a "known issue" now?
Hi Darkbrew,

Dropping by the dealership is a good idea; you can also contact my colleagues at Ford Canada so they can step in and assist. They can be reached at 1-800-565-3673.

have your dealer check to see if there are any codes stored.
Or you can go to most chain parts store to have them checked.
When I took my car into the dealership for this, they told me that everything checked out fine. After taking it in, the wrench has came on once or twice. I re-started as you stated and it cleared. If the wrench comes up while driving, or you drive with it on you will lose a lot of power too just an FYI if you encounter this.
But as stated I would definitely have it checked out at a dealership, odds are it'll be fine so don't sweat it!
Thanks for the great ideas, gang!

...I turn my car on and instantly it does it. So I take it back, they can't find the problem...
It’s important to me that this is resolved, Pakana. So I can set up a call from the customer service manager for your area, please send me a PM with your full name, best daytime phone number, approximate mileage, dealer details, and VIN.

I too, am having this problem. I notice it happens on really cold or rainy days. If I run my lights, stereo and heater at the same time. When it happens, the car runs sluggish, especially in 2nd gear (Stick shift car.) Seems to idling rough, and quite possible rich cause my mileage sucks when it happens. If I turn the car off and on. it won't clear, unless I pull the key out and stick it in. It seems to be in a limp mode. I've seen older Fords do this.

My car is a completely stock 2013 Fiesta SE. Nothing done to it. and only has 4300 miles on it. I did an oil change at 4003. I thought possibly it could be crappy gas.
Hi Pakana,

Have you had a chance to swing by your dealership so they can check out your Fiesta? Additionally, I want to get your regional customer service manager involved by escalating your case. Send me a PM with your VIN, preferred servicing dealer, full name, and daytime phone number; I'll get the ball rolling.

19k miles had this same issue. took it in to the dealership this morning. the rf frequency did not detect at a small interval so it put up the warning. they are ordering a new unit to replace just in case. worst case scenario the car will go into a safe mode where you will not be abnle to drive faster than roughly 40 to 45 mph. according to dealership. other issue it could be is carbon build up on the throttle unit. luckily mine wasn't that issue. different code for it.
Hey Knight,

Keep me posted on how things go at the dealership. I want to extend the same case escalation offer to you that I did for Pakana - send me your info (VIN, dealer, daytime phone number, full name) and I'll get to work.

Yesterday I drove my Fiesta to and from school without a problem. When I got back into it 4 hours later to go to work, an Engine Malfunction Service Now message appeared right at start up. Had no choice but to drive it like this. Arrived at work Turned car off and on, and the message no longer appeared. I ran a vehicle health report when I was home, and everything checked out ok...
Hi aborbs87,

Make an appointment at your dealership so they can take a look. It's always better to be safe than sorry in these kinds of situations. Feel free to reach out to me via PM if you have any additional concerns or questions.

How was it running when all those warnings were on? Did it run fine after they went off. Hopefully it stored a code in the computer and the service department can pull it...
...even if you do turn your car off and on to reset the error (which is what is recommended in the owners manual), the on-board computer will still maintain a log of the error code.
Thanks for the good info, Corvair and RobDV! :)

Have a great weekend,
Crystal
